Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about Analog Precision Medicine — what we do, how it works, and whether it's right for you.
About Precision Medicine
Precision medicine uses advanced diagnostics — genomics, proteomics, metabolomics, epigenetic aging markers, and detailed biomarker tracking — to build a health strategy tailored specifically to your biology. Rather than treating symptoms after they appear, it identifies risks and opportunities unique to you, so interventions happen earlier, with better data, and with more precision than conventional medicine allows.
A conventional primary care visit typically lasts 15 minutes, relies on a handful of standard lab values, and is structured around managing existing disease. Analog Precision Medicine inverts that model. Your initial evaluation includes advanced diagnostics most physicians never order, your consultations are unhurried, and the entire relationship is built around optimization and prevention — not waiting for something to go wrong.
Most concierge practices charge a membership fee for better access to the same standard care — shorter wait times, longer visits, direct physician communication. That's valuable, but the medicine itself is often unchanged. Analog layers advanced precision diagnostics and longitudinal data tracking on top of that access model. You're not just paying for more time with your doctor — you're paying for a fundamentally different depth of analysis.
Yes. The diagnostics used at Analog — clinical genomics, validated biomarker panels, metabolomic profiling, epigenetic clocks — are grounded in peer-reviewed literature. Where evidence is emerging rather than definitive, that distinction is made explicitly. You will never be sold a test or intervention without a transparent discussion of where the science stands. This is one of the key differences about Analog: we have a vested interest in not only providing the best care based on the most advanced science, but we feel an obligation to shout down those who trumpet unproven, unrealistic, or sensationalized "gimmicks" in medicine.
Analog Precision Medicine is designed for people who want more than reactive healthcare — executives, athletes, founders, and health-conscious individuals who see their health as a long-term asset worth investing in. If you've ever felt that your doctor was just checking boxes, this is the alternative.
About Analog Precision Medicine
Robert Preston, MD is dual board-certified in Emergency Medicine and Critical Care Medicine. He trained at Queen's University (Canada) and University College Dublin (Ireland), completed residency and fellowship at Duke University Medical Center, and has practiced across three countries' healthcare systems (Canada, Ireland, and the United States). He founded Analog Precision Medicine to build the kind of patient-physician relationship that modern healthcare makes nearly impossible.
Because the most important part of medicine is the human connection between physician and patient — and that's analog, not digital. Analog Precision Medicine uses advanced technology (genomics, machine learning, AI) specifically to make that human interaction better, not to replace it. The technology works in the background so the conversation in the foreground is more informed, more personal, and more useful.
Analog Precision Medicine is based in Southern California (South Bay / Los Angeles). The practice is virtual-first, meaning most consultations are conducted via secure, HIPAA-compliant telehealth. This allows Analog to serve patients anywhere in California without geographic limitations. However, a physical office does exist and in-person consultations can be arranged.
Dr. Preston has multiple state licenses, so it is possible. Contact us for further details to see if your state is one in which Dr. Preston is licensed.
No. Analog is a direct-pay practice. This structure eliminates the constraints that insurance places on visit length, test ordering, and treatment decisions — allowing Dr. Preston to practice medicine based entirely on what is best for you, not what a payer will authorize. Many patients use HSA or FSA funds to cover membership and diagnostic costs.
Yes. Analog offers both consult packages (a comprehensive suite of precision medicine evaluations and consultation sessions) and a consult + ongoing primary care arrangement. Patients choosing a consult package are encouraged to maintain a relationship with a primary care provider. In all cases, Analog coordinates with your existing physicians and provides a detailed PCP coordination letter summarizing findings and recommendations for integration into your existing healthcare routine.
Services & What to Expect
After joining the practice, you'll complete a comprehensive intake questionnaire covering your health history, family history, goals, and lifestyle. From there, Analog orders an advanced diagnostic panel tailored to your profile. Once results are in, you'll have an extended consultation with Dr. Preston to review findings, discuss your risk landscape, and build a personalized action plan.
Depending on your membership tier and clinical profile, diagnostics may include: advanced lipid panels, comprehensive metabolic and inflammatory biomarkers, hormonal panels, genomic analysis (via targeted panels or whole genome sequencing), epigenetic age testing, metabolomic profiling, microbiome analysis, and cardiovascular risk markers beyond standard cholesterol. The specific panel is tailored to you — not a one-size-fits-all package.
From intake to results consultation, the process typically takes 4–6 weeks. This includes time for questionnaire completion, specimen collection at a local draw site, laboratory processing, and data synthesis. Your results consultation is unhurried — typically 60–90 minutes.
Yes. Blood draws and specimen collection are performed at a partnered draw site convenient to your location. Analog coordinates the orders; you simply show up at a time that works for you.
Yes. Dr. Preston can prescribe medications, supplements, and interventions as clinically appropriate. This includes hormone optimization, metabolic support, and other evidence-based therapies. Certain medications require an in-person consultation.
GLP-1 receptor agonists can be prescribed when clinically indicated as part of a comprehensive metabolic strategy. Analog does not operate as a weight-loss prescription mill — these medications are considered within the full context of your metabolic profile, goals, and risk factors. Ongoing GLP-1 therapy is available to patients enrolled in Trestles Precision Primary Care or Cloudbreak Precision Concierge Care, as continued management requires a longitudinal patient-physician relationship.
Yes, when clinically indicated and supported by laboratory data. Hormone optimization is approached as one component of a broader precision strategy, not as an isolated intervention. Ongoing hormone replacement therapy is available to patients enrolled in Trestles Precision Primary Care or Cloudbreak Precision Concierge Care, as continued management requires a longitudinal patient-physician relationship.
Analog offers a curated selection of peptide therapies (such as growth hormone secretagogues) when clinically appropriate and sourced through compliant compounding pharmacies. The peptide landscape is evolving rapidly from a regulatory standpoint, and Analog maintains a conservative, evidence-first approach — only offering compounds with a favorable risk-benefit and regulatory profile. Ongoing peptide therapy is available to patients enrolled in Trestles Precision Primary Care or Cloudbreak Precision Concierge Care, as continued management requires a longitudinal patient-physician relationship.

Technology, AI & Privacy
AI and machine learning operate entirely in the background at Analog — never as a replacement for the physician. Specifically, AI-assisted tools are used for: pattern recognition across longitudinal biomarker data, genomic data interpretation and risk scoring, clinical documentation to reduce administrative burden, and synthesis of complex multi-layered datasets. The result is that Dr. Preston arrives at your consultation fully prepared, with key findings surfaced, so the time together is focused on what the data means for you and what to do about it.
No. Every clinical consultation at Analog is with Dr. Preston. AI assists with data preparation and synthesis behind the scenes, but all clinical interpretation, recommendations, and conversations are with your physician. This is not negotiable and is central to the Analog philosophy.
All patient data is stored in a HIPAA-compliant electronic medical record system. Telehealth consultations are conducted over encrypted, HIPAA-compliant platforms. Genomic and laboratory data is handled in accordance with HIPAA and California's Confidentiality of Medical Information Act (CMIA). Your data is never sold to third parties.
You do. Your genomic data belongs to you. Analog does not share, sell, or use your genomic data for research purposes without your explicit written consent. You can request a copy of your complete genomic data file at any time.
